trolling motor/graph wiring question

Got a question folks! I got a new boat and got some new goodies to put on it but have a question or 2 on the wiring. I got a 55lb thrust minnkota tm bow mount and a small Eagle 350c color graph for up front. Because my deep cycle battery is up front I was planning on hooking up my trolling motor and small graph to that battery. The fella at basspro said that wasnt a good Idea because I may pick up interferance?? I had my last boat set up this way with no problems but the new trolling motor has universal sonar2 also. Does anyone else see a problem with wiring this way??? The only reason why I evan ask is, its gonna be a major pain to run wires to the back of the boat for just that little graph. Any input would be appreciated.... Thanks... Robin

Get something to bite on really hard so you can stand the pain and run the wire! :D

I would try using the one battery. If it works you smile.
If you have interference, then you run a set of wires across the floor of the boat to the other battery as a test to see if that will fix the problem.
If it does then you install the wires.

I had a humminbird 323 wired to the trolling motor battery without problems.

If I add a second FF to my current boat, I will try wiring it to the trolling motor battery so I can watch the trolling motor battery voltage. I can watch the start battery voltage from the FF on the console.

Remember fuses close to the battery

I run my troller to two batteries wired in parallel. The troller is hooked to one battery(+ & -) and the DF is hooked to the other battery(+ & -). No problems, even with the two batteries connected together. Here's another suggestion if you have room...pick up one of those small lawn mower batteries for the DF if youre getting interference as long as you have room to stow it.;):)

A simpler solution could be a different battery. Get a small 12 volt battery that has a an amp/hour rating of 7a/h or better. Wal mart sells motor cycle batteries that will work.

Just remember to charge the smaller batteries after every trip. Cost should be less than 25 dollars. The amperage required to run fish finders is pretty minimal. Icefishermen use the 12 volt gel cells to power their FF's all day long.

If price isn't a consideration get another Marine deep cycle to use for the FF and it would be like a backup if other battery would fail.

Just go to Lowes or Home Depot and get some 16 or 18 gauge 2 conductor cable. It is easy to run in a boat I got it ran all over. It's small enough to hide pretty easy. Put in an inline fuse and you are ready to go :D
