Heating jig heads tpaint
I have been using those small cans of Sterno you get at WM to heat up my jig heads when I powder paint.. Now our local WM no longer carries Sterno due to druggies buying them. At least thats what the store manager said. How do you heat up your heads?

Hard to beat a heat gun ... Harbor Freight has the best price on one ... if you are doing a lot of them you might want to get one of them with more than 2 heat ranges.

I have a dual stage heat gun left over from my electronic service days. How do you use it? Do you leave it on or? Lay it down?

I stand mine up and hover the jig over the heat with a pair of long hemostats rotating it to even the heat out. Watch the color and when it starts getting shinny its time for a dip .I use a B&D 2 stage heat gun. Tried candle, propane and toaster oven and the heatgun has the best range. My commercial jig friends use propane because it's faster. They do several hundred thousand sauger 1 1/2 oz. jigs a year and a heat gun takes 20 secs. to heat.My heat gun takes 9 secs. for most 1/8 oz. jigs. I have had my heatgun for over a year with no problems.$19 at Lowes. I saw some Harbour Freight guns for $9.Oldwun I like the name of your town.....Ifish
PS: Oldwun be very careful with the end of that heat gun . Been burnt several times leaning over the table or reaching around the gun to get something until I wrapped the barrel with some fire door seal tape. Still have the scars !! If you can't find something to wrap the barrel with PM me your address and I will send you some fire door tape.

I use one of those little propane heaters that you would use in a tent. Takes about 6 seconds to heat an 1/8oz. jig. Hold with pair of needle nose...works great!

heat gun only way i would do it anymore

I use a two setting heat gun from Ace hardware. Works great for me. Just don't let the Rottweilers in the room while you are painting!!!:eek::eek:

i ve tried it all and the heat gun is best. adjustable temp is nice but not a must have.
just don t over heat jig head and let it melt and drip into gun it will short out.

Have 2 heat guns and don't really like them that much for this, wires in the way if you kock it over or catch it with your sleeve or something else. I use an alcohol lame and love it, you can get one from Barlow's Tackle where I got mine. Alcohol is clean burning (no black stuff).
