whats the best kinda thinner to use on the vinyl paint OS Coatings..... is there any that you can buy at wally world? like acetone or thinner
PBug2009,
Accetone is what I use. MEK is the best if you can find it. That is what Componet Systems uses for there thinner.
what is mek?
acetone is what I use also.
Use the component systems thinner. Pint's run about $12,better than spending $3.50 for 1 oz.,last's a lot longer. BARLOW'S has it in their catalog,it's where I bought mine.
MEK is methl ethal keytone its a very powerful thinner usually not on store shelves you have to ask for it. They usually have in back room because of the meth problems. Hope that helps
JUNGLEMANJIGS has it right on. To use vinyl paint and keep it the right consistancy, use their thinner.
I wouldn't even think of trying to use vinyl without a cheap round indent pallet and glass eyedropper. Illinoisgiller
jjj true about the pint but was wondering if there was anything cheaper..... more or less that worked the same.....hey giller whats that mean' cheap indent pallet and eyedropper
MEK for me for lots of things, but also some Toluene (Toluol) for other things. Both should be handled with care and a well ventilated area. I do have some thinner from Component Systems for vinyl too.

PBUG2009, Member rebg38 clued me in on how to manage this vinyl. It dries at such a high rate it needs "tweeking " to keep the consistancy right.
The indent pallet is a cheapie from hobby stores or wall mart. If the vinyl dries in the indent it will peel right out.
The glass eyedropper is another wall mart item 2 to a card.[ Note that the tip is bent on this one .If there is an item with a defect but still useable, wall mart will find it. ]
I just put a little vinyl in an indent and thin with thinner by the drop. If you have to leave for a while, put tape over the indent till you return. I use clear 2" shipping tape because I have it handy. When you are done painting , -paint the vinyl back into the jar,
I do clead up with acitone and itn works well for that.
I am all over saving money any time I can, but I fully believe the thinner is the way to go here.
Now, If we could just get some compitition for this overpriced vinyl. lol Illinoisgiller
