Zonked Pine Squirrel
Got a $50 gift cert. thats burning a hole in my pocket. :D Was set on 2 rod holders for my kayak (right @ $50), but foolishly looked at the tying materials. :o Found this - Zonked Pine Squirrel - and wondered if anyone on here has tried these for jigs. Are they similar to rabbit strips as far as action? Would think they may be stiffer???
It says it's a whole skin and at $18 is kinda pricey, don't wanna waste money on something I'm not sure of without guidance from fellow tiers. Thanks for any info! :)

I think you should go with the rod holders. Not to say that the material is good or bad, I just think that for cost-effectiveness, the rod holders would be a better choice

no on the rod holder
I would buy the squirrel especially the orange crawdad color. I think that you will like it. That is just my opinion:D

AF I have some squirrel strips in chartreuse. I like rabbit much better. The squirrel hair is a little shorter and much thicker than the rabbit. So I dont think it has near the action.

My vote is for the rod holders, lol.Plenty of squirrel hunters out there to give you one for free.My $ 0.02.

One thing I know is the these Pine Squirrel's are really small so may want to think about that. Can't be a lot of material since they are so small. Ever seen one's tail? I have never seen how large the body really is, but the tail I have is 5" long and 1" wide, so really small.
Maybe someone can tell you just how big one is?
Just something to consider,

Thanks for the input and special thanks to a member who offered to send me a strip in the mail to see it for myself be fore I lay down $20. He only asked for my second child in return.... :D Thank you!!!!
I did a little searching online, found the right-up for it on Wapsi Fly, Inc. - Pine Squirrel - By the sounds of it, it is used for mini zonker flies down to size #14 hook.... That has peaked my interest even more, a zonker strip on a 1/64 head might be interesting, let alone a mini zonker fly. Think of the mini leach you could make, look out bluegills.
With all that said, I am getting the rod holders for sure, you guys convinced me, more benefit in the long run. But after I take a look at the actual squirrel strip, may just have to bat my eyes at the ol' wifey, suck up my walnuts, and ask pretty please. :o
Thanks for your help guys!!! AF

I would get the rod holders and see if you have enough left over for a zonker strip cutter. That way you can cut as many as you want to and have the rod holders for fishing.
