Any of you fellas ever take a center punch or something and tap the side
of a 1/6 oz ball jig to make a recession to put 3d eyes in. I'm all ears if
you have tried this.

never tried it. but it sounds like it would work fer sure
just tap with a hammer to make a flat spot 3 d eye will stick. then you need to clear coat with devcon epoxy . they look great but it adds a lot of time and cost to a jig.
Ever thought about drilling the head with a drill bit ??
Yes, I also thought about using a drill bit, guess I'm gonna have to
go down to the shop and experiment a little today.
If you drill it... using a flat pt bit will make the bottom of the hole flat and a better contact area for the eye.
I tried drilling before. To do right and do it fast you would need. Depth adjustment on side of drill , a jig holder for each size.
After getting exasperated went back to wishing Do-IT would make a recessed eye mold for round head jigs, I finally started to use the minnow head jig with recessed eyes.
I can only contribute some food for thought. If you want a flat spot on each side, what about a mold(of sorts) that you put in the round ball, close, tap one time with a hammer, and reform the jig to what you need. I think this would keep the head from getting deformed and be more consistant. Kinda like the way steel is drop forged on a much smaller scale. My 2 cents.
i dunno if it will work but why not drill the mold and put some pegs in the holes then it will pour the inserts for the eyes...it would just be hard to find somthing strong nuff to take the heat to hold the pegs in place
