Well, if you fellers or fellerettes can wait to March, we plan to do some side by side comparison of the two units. We will be making some videos and taking pictures and I believe we will give an unbiased report, pros and cons.
I have access to a HDS8, and own a 997 (but not the 998). Therefore, we will be comparing the HDS8 to the 997 units. We will make sure both units have the latest firmware.

I have a HD-7 and HD-8 and owned a humminbird, so far not sorry I bought the lowrance, hope your test come out as good as I think I did on swithcing
My opinion ain't worth much but I based my decision of HB vs L based on....
95%... user opinion of HB cusomer service vs lack of L customer service...
4%...HB 5 years experience in SI vs L less than 1 year experience in SI...
1%... guess...:)
Our report will be performance based only.
We are all aware that HB is megasteps ahead in customer service.
HB may be 5 years into production, but not 5 years ahead in technology.
Who is ahead, or who is the favorite will not be considered in this evaluation.
I have no dedication to either brand. Neither pay me enough.
This will be fair and balanced to the best of our ability.
