eagle fish elite 480
on a recent trip to bps for a new depth finder for the rear of my boat i purchased a eagle fishelite 480 w/gps. i didnt honestly intend on getting this model, but they had it on clearance, 100 bucks off, and the supervisor took an extra 5% off if i wanted it, warrenty is just like normal, witch put it right in my price range. I didnt currently have gps so seemed like a no brainer to me. the guy at the counter told me it was a discontinued model, but cabelas still list em and for full price, does any one know if this is a discontinued model or is it just maybe somthing bps is not going to carry any longer? 2nd question is my front/trolling motor depth finder is an older hummingbird tcr id-10, with the gps on my new one i dont know weather to put it on the front or rear of the boat, any suggestions? im leaning towards rear but maybe some one with a little more exp can lean me in the right direction. 3rd is does any one have any tips, tricks, or suggestions for anything w/ gps/depth finder models, and is there a certain length the antenna has to be from the unit?? any info would be great, im pretty new to the whole gps/depth finder deal, im pretty excited about it, but just trying to pick some of your guys brains who may have had em for a while. thanks to all, have a blessed new year and God bless all.

James, from what I understand, Lowrance is adding the "Mark" and "Elite" series to their main line instead of EAGLE. That's probably why the EAGLE unit is discontinued. I think the new one will be basically the same units with a Lowrance name and a few new features on them. That's what I was told anyway. I know if you go to their website they say it will be available in March. By the way, a person who knows more about GPS (Tbone) told me to mount the antenna on the front. Just be careful it's in a safe place so as not to get broke.

If you are going to mark your fishing spots with the GPS, it would be better to mount the GPS as close to the transducer as possible. This would give you the most accurate mark on your brushpiles ect. Just my opinion
