I have read a few posts that mentioned the 800 series coming out from HB. Is there any info released yet on those models and what is changing? I am looking hard at the 700 and 900 models but am unsure since there is an 800 series coming out.

I've gotten in one catalog so far that shows the 898.
An Offshore Angler catalog of all things.
I did notice that it appears to have the higher power (8000 watts)
of the 900 and 1100 series
versus the 4000 of the 700 series. Not sure, but I am attributing watts output
to my take on why the 997 works so much better than my 797. Screen
size yes, but there just seems more to it, especially once the water gets
past 20' deep or so and the bottom is soft.
LOOKS like a smaller, 7" screen in the same size case as the 8" 900 series.
More "margin" around the screen,
but same pixel count (480x800) Seems like it listed for $1499 or so,
working from memory here.
Thanks. Can the higher end transducer be purchased and used on the 798 or is the 798 not able to process the 8000 watts? I have been trying to read up on the HB side/down scan stuff and I seem to get lost in all the "new" info out there. I figured the price would be up there because of a new model being rolled out.
I won't say for SURE on a 798, but I am using a transducer which would
have came with a 997/1197 on my 797 (and like it better)
Here are the 898 Specs
898cSI Combo
$1499.99 MRP
7” TFT LCD
480v x 800h
Temp included
GPS speed included
Side Imaging 455kHz / 800kHz - 180º DualBeam PLUS
200kHz / 20º 83kHz / 60º
500 Watts RMS
4000 Watts PTP

898 kinda look likes a 731 repackaged.
Shine, you need to talk to smitty. You wont like anything less than the 997. The larger screen makes a difference.
I can see where the side imaging would be better on the larger unit and 8k instead of 4k watts. But my main concern is the down imaging. Since it is not splitting the "view" the 798c might be ok especially if the 900/1100 series transducer will work with the 798c. I would only be using the SI for docks. I ain't got the patience to look at structure in SI, when I can use the DI and get a better "view" of what I am seeing under me.
Thanks for the replies and keep them coming...............
I priced a 798c/788c/interlink/navionics card/ram mount/& 2 yr extended warranties for almost the same price as the 800 series new unit......I am really counting pennies now to make it happen......just gotta pick up a few more cans!!!!!!!
The 898c Si is a smaller display version of the 998c Si (which replaces the 997c Si unit).
(CP we never made a 731. Did you mean the 931?)
Yes the 798 will work on the larger HDSi transducer that is used with the 997, 1197 and soon 898 and 998 units. However, it cannot make use of the higher 800kHz Si sonar that this transducer is capable of.
Read your literature closely as the 8,000 watts is only available when using the 1KW 50kHz (2D sonar only) transducer. So basically the 798 has the same wattage rating as the other units but does not have the option of using the 1KW 50kHz transducer. The 798 does have different circuitry than its larger cousins though and this along with the larger HDSi transducer is why there are differences seen between them – although the show the same data on a more basic level.
