Any of you that use big White Fox Tails look
Just an FYI here.
Just to let you know what is happening with these big Fox tails like I buy, the market is drying up totally.
I was using one of my big white tails on some big jigs for a guy that fishes for Strippers and decided to get a couple more of them and have been talking to my go to spot for these tails and here is what he told me...
Keep this in mind. there is not going to be very many tails on the market do to the fox ranchers and tanneries are cutting them off and burning them destroying them. this started 2 years ago to get the price of the fox pelt back up in price. The Chinese have been just buying the cheep tails to do trim on their garmet manufacturing and not buying the fox pelts. So the fox ranches and tanneries made a agreement not to leave the tails on the pelts to force the Chinese and others to buy the full pelt. The last report that i have received yesterday is that it is working. The fox tail market is just about dried up. I can not get any more quantity of white tails. the price has been going up monthly.I hope they will leave tails on again.there is no sign of it ever happen.
I don't think this will impact tails like Arctic Fox, but they are really small compared to what I buy. I bought some the other day and was shocked at how little they were compared to what I get from this guy so I got several white ones coming to fill my stock along with a few other colors and such. It looks like my big white tail supply is about gone for good. I guess some colors of the dyed ones will also be a problem since that is where they come from too. This guy that gave me this info is a really big dealer in fur/hair/feathers etc. for Fly tying. I don't buy much from him other than tails and some other hair.
If you don't use Fox tails then you don't need to worry about this, but I had to beef up my supply.
