quick humminbird ?

Awhile back my US2 quit working... I swapped df's around, everything
works fine elsewhere, but neither my 787 or 797 will work off the US

Trying to troubleshoot thoroughly before tearing into the motor, I just
happened to check for continuity on my adapter cable - the 6 or so inch
long one that converts from round threaded coupler on one end to H'bird
plug on the other. My question is, I have 4 pins coming from the tm.
I have four sockets in the tm end of the adapter. The H'bird plug only has
three pins. I only have continuity from two of these pins through the
adapter cable. The third pin is "dead".

Is this my problem? Or are only two used?
I'd love to see sort of a pinout explanation of what each pin does,
200, 83 freq., water temp, etc.

Betting that's the converter cable is the problem J. I'll betcha Greg Walters can help you with that pin layout. I'd email/PM him if he doesn't happen to see this.

If you've got access to cable making supplies, you could prolly gen up a test cable to bypass the adapter if you're of a mind to trouble shoot it further.

Radio shack has the male/female pin ends for pretty dang cheap and with a litte tedious close up work, you can make a bypass cable pretty easily. I've done it before to test out a Garmin cable.

Thanks WB. I ended up losing patience and cutting into the adapter to
see what gave - ended up the red wire was pulled loose from the terminal,
up inside the molded connecter. Bad solder connection, tm end. AHA!
Think I'm just gonna order a new cable. I did figure out the colors and
which pins they go to, if I can figure out how to post up my diagram I'll
do it.

Good deal J. I'm pretty impatient when it comes to this stuff too. I was actually on my way back here to let you know I've got some of the crimp terminals if you needed 'em. But it looks like you beat me to it.

Welp, had a nasty argument with our scanner and it won -
but there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Ok, edit on the use of color investigation -
red and yellow show a slight resistance across them which changes when I played a lighter
across the temp sensor briefly. I could not remember whether the water temp quit when the
sonar did, so I plugged it back up and checked... no temp sensor recognized. Now why this
made the sonar quit working, I dunno. But I definitly had an open circuit on the red wire, so
I'm taking a gamble on a new cable. And yes, the nekkid wire has continuity with the metal parts
of the motor ;)

OK, curiousity gots the better of me. I soldered the red wire back
to where it had pulled loose from and tried it out. Temp reading is
back, and it LOOKS like sonar is working. Reason I say this is, it
has always shown SOME kind of bottom signal off a concrete floor in
the past - and it does again now. When the wire was open circuit,
it would search to crazy depths looking for bottom and never find it,
whether on water or on the trailer. New cable time and cross fingers
thats all the problem.

Now that its working. Leave the red wire and cut another wire and see what quit working. (assuming you gonna get another cable)

Gotta have a common return, ping, and temp with 3 wires. I am cornfused.

I can't stand to leave well enough alone.

I had visited the CC site before you posted this yesterday J White. I could have supplied you information on the Humminbird connector and pins (see below) but not on the wire color or the MinnKota connector. This is not one of our parts so I don’t have access to a drawing for it. Next time you need something quick try direct e-mailing me for it. I usually can check my e-mail several times a day but normally only get to the CC board once a day or so.

This is the pinout for an XNT-9-20-T transducer which this cable should have to use the same connections but seems to use different wire colors (which will not affect anything).
