What is the difference in the 898 and the 998?
The only technical difference that I can discern, by studying the 2010 Humminbird catalog, is screen size. The 998 has a 8" diagonal screen, while the 898 has a 7" diagonal screen.
The pocketbook affect of the two units is also different. MSRP on the 998 will be $1995, while MSRP on the 898 will be $1495, if I remember correctly.

Will it work better than the 797?
The 898 will come with the Down Imaging Feature and the 797 will not due to memory. The only difference there is the size of the display. The 898 will have a 7 in 480V X 800H pixel count display and the 797 has a 5 in 640V X 480H pixel count display.
Screen size? Wow, didn't know that and I was wondering. I can't see where 1 inch would really make THAT much of a difference. I'm glad I went back and started reading all this. I thought there were some major differences between the 2
Just something to think about is 1 inch display size and pixel count.
Wait for JandHproducts.com to get them in. They usually beat everyone else by 150-200 dollars.
I've bought 4 fishfinders from them in the past and have saved almost enough to by a 798. They are dependable from my experiences.
