Cane Creek Report - 11/21/09

Arrived at 5:30am, 6 boats already beat me in the water. However, the day was cool and very little wind so the day was awesome - except the crappie wasn't cooperating.

My brother Jack caught the only one for us:

This one was 14", 1lb - 8oz. I think the reason why they weren't biting was all the gun shots going off! :eek: You think it was a war going on out there!

Now, look closely at that crappie. That is the largest and healthiest spec I have ever seen! That's even larger than the specs I've caught at Peckerwood!

I'm impressed by the quality of crappie at Cane Creek. It will be on my list of lake visits next year!

Lastly, CrappieSurvey was out there as well. He may have caught his limit, but I spoke with everyone there and it was onesy's-and-twosey's!

So the report isn't great but if you do get into them, you will be amazed!

Good looking fish, some of the gunfire was probably due to it being opening morning of duck season. There are deer and duck hunters shooting all over the state, but I guess that means the lakes are less crowded for a few months.

what was the water temp? bobberwatcher said the grass had not settled down yet when he was out there last time. I've usually had my best luck fishing down 3-4 ft in 10ft of water, and the grass has settled down a little where it's 4-5 ft tall. most of the time, I use my electronics to keep my rosie reds just above that grass. usually the ticket.

Crappiesurvey what depth were you fishing? Jigs or minnows? I've never fished there but I have put some steel shot in the lake :D:D

It was 58 degrees. Was jiggin around 6' feet. The state park had minnows but no rosie's. Also, the lady said the "Beaver Pool" has been producing well. Looks like nice weather until mid December. Therefore, guess I'll be at CANE CREEK every chance I get.

Caught on white jig with shinner. Fishing about 7 ft deep. Very slow though!
