Has anyone been to Horseshoe recently? Have the crappie started stacking up around the piers yet, or is it still too warm?
When they stack up in the winter, how much bigger are they than in the summer? Those summer Horseshoe crappie are small.
They're about the same size; Horseshoe's crappie are known for numbers, not size. However, if you find them stacked up you can wear them out. One time I found them around one of the piers in late Nov./early Dec. and for 1 1/2 hrs. I either made a bad cast, missed a strike or caught a fish. They averaged about 9 in. then.
Well me and the wife went back in May and caught about 30 to 40 keepers.I threw back all under 10 inches.
Crappie have been biting around the piers for the last month or so, and the size has been outstanding. I have been catching between 30-50 crappie per trip, 11-14 inch average. I've been using red /chart jigs between 5-10 feet.
Anyone trolling?
