I have been using a Dual Pro XL 12 amp...two banks 6 amps per bank, for about 4 years now with no problems. $164.99 at BPS. I do not know anything, nor have I heard anything about the charger that you speak of.
If you do a little searching you will find them all over for around that price.
I've been using that Guest charger for about 3 years now, no problems. It puts out 5 amps per set of leads so you can charge 2 batteries. I have both sets of leads going to my one trolling motor battery, giving it the whole 10 amps for a quicker charge. I also leave it plugged in just about 24/7, as it won't overcharge a battery. Thru the winter I leave the battery in the boat, and just plug in the charger every couple weeks for a day or two.
I use the same type same brand on my boat (wife's boat:D) and leave it plugged
24/7. Keeps the batteries up and ready all the time. I keep it pluged in all winter, too. It's work great for 3 or 4 years, just check water every month if you use flooded cells.
.
How do they work on optimax batteries?
.
I was told by a boat dealer that the charger worked equally well on Optima batteries. Now, that was a dealer, I have no first hand knowledge, I use flooded cell batteries on my boat. I'm cheap.
.
I installed one about a year ago and the charger is still wworking fine with it.
