I have a 30 gallon Keep Alive bait tank. I like the tank itself but I have went through 4 aerorators in the past two years and I only use it when I'm striper fishing which isn't much. I'm guessing I've got about 20 to 30 hours out of each one before they die and at $50 bucks a piece it isn't worth it. Is this happening to anyone else?
Can anyone suggest an alternative to the Keep Alive?

I Just Installed A Mayfair In My Livewell And It Doesn't Prime Like I Thought It Should? Talked To Guy At Mayfair Distributor And He Think I'm Trying To Get More Out Of The Pump Than Designed For He Thinks Nine Foot Of Hose Is Too Much And A Rise Of Ten Inches Is Too High What Good Is The Pump His Name Is Greg . Get a pump that you can mount through the back hull of your boat....it is easier for a pump to push water than it is to suck water. Thats why most boats with a factory installed livewell use them...plus they are always primed when the boat is in the water. The discharge hose from the pump to the live well in my G3 boat is only about 3 and a half ft. long also...the inlet for the pump goes through the lower part of the hull at the back of the boat.Quote:

aerorators are different in that they pump air...they do not like water......a simple one way check valve in the line between the aerorator and the air stone will prevent water from eventually getting to the pump and ruining it. I bought a check valve for my bait bucket areator at a pet shop...its one they use on tropical fish aquariums...that solved the problem for me. I was going through two aerorators a year.
