What Happens in HIGH WATER

Have been finding Crappie in 18 to 20 FOW and they are suspended at about 14 to 16 ft. The lake is now almost 6 ft. above normal which makes the water depth 24 to 26 ft. where I was fishing. Do you think the fish will stay in that area or go to shallower water. They normally do not change the depth of the lake drastically, usually only a few inches a day. With the lite showers we received yesterday (4+ inches) the level will probably increase a small amount and be held pretty steady for several days. My question is if the fish will move with depth of water or possibly change due to temperature change of water?

Just checked the web site and it shows the lake came up 2.2 feet over night. Don't know what that will do to them.

My most recent experience with high water was last Spring on Greeson. I could see them down in the condos but couldn't get them to hit nothing. The few that were caught were near the bank in about 12' of water.

The lake is forecasted to rise another 2' before it crest on Monday. That's going to put it about 8' above normal pool.:eek:

Move to the flats at the first drop-offs off main river or creek channels that are normally there even in shallow water. If the water is muddy, shallow up some and fish with live bait or jig tipped with a minnow.
The fish will need to move up in the muddier water to have the light penetration they need to be able to feed.

In this weekends weather pattern, try spider rigging.;)

Thanks for the info dafshklr! I was wondering the same thing. The water here is up about 6-7 feet over the last couple of weeks! Anymore and I am going to have to bail for higher ground or get a house boat.

Well CS it appears that we have reached that 7+ and still rising. More rain forcasted for monday. Dont know what condition the lake is in color wise, but if it doesn't have too much color, a friend is comming over from Mt. View and we are going to try them Tuesday am. Dont know if you got my PM or not, but picked up a few first part of the week. Could have done better, but the green carp and white bass were a pain in the neck. Bet I caught at least a dozen. Those white bass that weigh about 2 to 2 1/2 lbs. sure do a number on those limber 10' rods W/6 lb. test line. Especially if you are spider rigging. What a mess, old age, cant see good, 6 lb. test line, 4 lines all tangled up. H E L P!!!:mad::mad::mad:

some will still be there but Id bet they have scattered I have been having the same problem
