Worm-Tail Jigs

I made these up yesterday. Whats your thoughts? 1/64 heads with a #8 hook for the trailer. I doubled up 12lb mono to link the hooks and wove ultra chennile through it. Around 2" total length.

With nasty cold/windy weather, the gills (and crappie) for the most part have gone on hiatus. Tried them today for a bit, but no takers, I had minners along too and just couldn't find much of anything willing to ride home with me. :rolleyes: Is this cheating?? :o Made some poppers with the same idea, gonna post on the fly board. - AF

I like em! I've done similar without the trailer and a 3" worm.

Fatman... I got the idea from the San Juan Worm fly pattern that has 1 hook in the middle of the worm body and sorta mixed it with the popular Creme (sp?) rubber worms that are pre rigged with 2 hooks. :D Was talking with a guy who got into some good browns using the rubber version with floats on spinnging gear.

Used to slay big gills on small leeches ( live ) the ones too small for walleye. I don't see any reason those won't do the same. By the way the walleye didn't know they were too small and they gobbled them up also.

When I operated a bait shop I always had plently of little leeches as the fishermen wouldn't buy the small ones. The only way I could buy them was mixed. Might have to try tying your pattern as I haven't had live leeches for quite awhile.

Rabbit zonker strips also make a good leech imitation according to a lot of tying sites.

You may like this story then. Spring 2008 I was actually trying off my bulkhead for some bass action and using a 1/4 oz with marabou and worm tail or most of a 4" worm. Caught no bass, but caught 2 really nice crappie and both in the range of 12"-14" (don't really remember them as I think one or both got let back).

The guides back when used this black marabou jig after fronts in the spring so they could still catch some.
