The rains have filled Granger Lake back up and the fishing is really getting good. I fished a short guide trip today and ended up with 24 good keeper crappie with the lake still muddy and rising. Chartreuse 1/32 oz. jigs are doing the damage. The crappie fishing is going to be very good for the next several weeks.

Did ya get a chance to use those jigs I gave you?
Yes, I used them that day and they worked good. I used one and another guy used the other orange one and caught fish one after another. Those worked good but I didn't get a chance to try out the real small ones. The water is still not clearing up any. I can''t figure it out. This is the longest I have ever seen it to clear up. In fact, the lake was muddy before the rains. I don't know if it is turning over or what. The Willis arm was the only clear part of the lake for 3 weeks prior to the rains. It is a real mystery. It was much easier to fish when it was 20 feet above normal than it has been with it 4 feet low.
Going to Granger tomorrow to mark brush piles on GPS. Maybe I'll get a chance to drop a line every now and them. Tommy, seen you on the lake about 2 Saturdays ago but didn't want to disturb your fishing. We still need to go out together before it gets too late in the season.

I was kinda thinking that the lake was turning over also.
The surface water temp. made big changes in a short period of time when that first front came in, and even more of a drop with the second front.
I caught one fish this last Sunday that was so sluggish that I thought I was pulling up a small log. It never hit the jig, and it just felt heavy coming up.
I was surprised when I looked down and had an 11 in. crappie on.
It never fought at all. I think fishing will be getting better by this weekend if we don't get too much more fresh water.
I just got back from the tournament in Texoma and boy what a difference in how the fish fight on that lake.
Bill and I turned in 8.725 pounds and that was only good for 9th out of 15 in div. #1. First place was 11.6 pounds, turned in by Cliff Spindle who guides on that lake. There are all kinds of big crappie on that lake and easy to find.

Kevin, glad ya'll did good at Texoma. I fished there one weekend in a bass tournament and the fishing was good then too. We finished 20th out of 260 teams. I liked the lake and found lots of crappie brush piles while bass fishing. The crappie seem to be changing their patterns daily. On Sat. we caught all our fish in 6' of water and nowhere else. On Sunday they would not bite that good in 6' and we caught all them in 10'.
We can probably pour up some more jig heads but I just can't tell how soon. I have a roll of that gold craft cord that I will give you to tie me up some jigs.

The fishing has finally stabilized after the big rise. Last weekend we limited out on both Sat. and Sunday and today we ended up with 66 keeper crappie out of about 150 that we caught. They were in every spot we fished from 3 feet deep to 13 feet deep. We caught most on chartreuse jigs with orange body and a few on black chartreuse.
