Tiny rubber-tailed jigs produce lots of big bluegills, and chartreuse is my favorite color. Silicone rubber skirts have evolved shad scale patterns that surpass most soft plastic baits. Dunking tiny rubber-tailed jigs in wooden structure at this time of year will yield some super action and some giant crappies.
Crappies will slide up close and just inhale it. Pencil-style floats made of balsa offer little resistance and are tops for this type of fishing.
