I need help with my jig eyes. They are haveing a hard time seeing where they are going. I have tried different techniques and my eyes are coming out oblong,splattered or just messed up. After the last swap I got to see what can be done and Len and several others had some pretty fantastic eyes on their jigs.I am using Testors enamel with wooden dowels. Any eye doctors out there have any suggestions ??? Thanks for any help..........ifish
I use the wooden dowels,but I have an assortment of sizes of nail heads that I put in the ends of the dowel rod. The nail heads make a nice round eye and holds paint very well.You can get 2-3 eyes per dip into the paint,usually.I've been using vinyl jig paint from component systems for many years for my eyes with excellent results.Never have tried the Testors enamel but it may work just as well.
I would definitely try using the nails with the testors. Model paints are a lot thinner than most paints so that might help. You can also try to thicken them up a little by letting them sit out until the right consistency. Also, try laying the jigs on a table to put the eyes on and do one side at a time. I can not do it holding them in the air because my hands simply are not steady enough. Every time I try I get oblong and deformed eyes.
Try finding some cheap drill bits that have a flat end on the other end from the actual bit and use that.

The thiner the paint the better!
I use finish nails in various sizes, mostly 12 and 6.
For paint I use Krylon Shortcut. It's kinda hard to find and the colors are
limited but works great. The colors I have are pink, black, white, yellow,red
and in Testors racing enamel copper and gold.;)
Use drill bits and jig paint.
I tried the butt end of a drill bit like Skip suggested, it worked great.Quote:

Drill Bits And Finnish Nails Attached To Dowels Both Work Great. I Would Advise Using Vinyl Jig Paint.
The Thicker The Paint The Better - To A Point. You Don't Want It Running.
I Like To Use A Larger Nail With White Paint. Let It Dry Some And Then Place A Darker Color With Smaller Nail On That Off Center Just A Bit. You Can Even Use A Very Small Nail With Black For A Pupil.
I Am Not Really Convinced That Eyes Even Make A Difference. But They Sure Do Look Good. Confidence In Yourself And Your Lures Can Sometimes Make The Difference In Getting A Slab Or Not. If We Go Out On The Water With An Attitude Of Not Catching Fish And Our Lures Are Junk , The Only Slab We Will See Is That Large Concrete Slab That Our Truck And Trailer Is Setting On As We Strap The Boat Down - With The Empty Cooler.
