I think I want to try this using Bandit crankbaits. Do any of you troll? What type of poles or rods and what reels should I use? Depths, length of lines etc. How to keep from getting all tangled up etc. Any other ideas or tidbits would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I have only done it twice. But, it is a very productive way to cover a lot of water. See my recent post "I'm rernt boys and girls". I use Bandit 300s (black and pearl most productive) and Gravediggers from Cabelas ($2.99 each). I don't use any special rods and I am not smart enough to manage anymore than two at a time.
Watch for post from Creekslick. His info has cost me about $250 in the last few weeks gearing up to troll cranks.

We troll canks in the summer. I like BnM Pro trollers for the rods. A good spinning reel works for me. I would like to have line counter reels but too high for me. Don't make sharp turns when trolling.

i would start by using what you have to see if you are gonna like it and if it will work in the lakes you like to fish and if so u'll prolly need some 100s and 200s as well as the 300s...you'll need stiff rods..i just use my 6'6'' casting rods with bait casting reels and 12# line...i only run 2 at a time...easier to keep up with....shad colors like the blk/pearl or blk splatter back have worked best for me...there are some crank videos shot at sardis at www.midwestcrappie.com/tvshow.html good luck

trolling..ur pulling the baits more or less with poles out the sides or back of boat
spider rigging...ur pushing the baits with poles out the front of the boat...usually a slower presentation than trolling
I started out using some bass rod with spinning reels that I already had. I would cast as far as I could out the back of the boat. After I knew that trolling Bandits was something that I liked I bought line counter reels and used some Wally Marshall Tightline Special rod that I had. After all my stuff was stolen at the Marina in April I bought BnM Trolling rods. I use a pontoon boat and troll of the back. I have a 20' a 14' and a 8' out each side of the boat and 2 8'er out the back. If I am fishing by myself I don't use the 8'er out the back. I have an engine mount trolling motor that I use so I can still steer with the steering wheel. I try to keep my speed between 1.5 and 2.0 mph. If where you are going to troll has any structure get a lure knocker. If you can get 3 bait back that are hung it has already paid for it's self. I run between 100' and 175' of line. Color can change several time a day just like when using jigs. Shad colors and chartreuse are colors that seem to work no matter what lake you are on. The best advice I can give you is just get out there and try it.
