Fish Skin, need tips
I am gonna try to make up some fish skin for tying with this fall when the salmon come in. I have not been able to find anything really useful online yet for preserving it but not drying it out so bad it gets brittle. All I need is to get it to keep without freezing and so it maintains the fish scent.
Anyone have any ideas?
I also figure it should work good for adding some natural scale pattern to some jig and fly patterns. If I really get lucky, it might have a natural UV iridescence and maybe some flash to it.

You might want to try pickling it in a brine look at canning .

That is a thought but most pickled fish I have had with the skin on the skin fell apart and was mushy. There should be some type of brine out there though that will not damage the skin but should preserve it.

Hey Fish 4 all,
Have you thought about caster oil.

I haven't thought about using anything to be honest. Have never tried this. I just want to get everything ready to try when I have the fish skins this fall.
