Couple of hours at Cedar Creek ...

Couldn't stand it any longer, had to make a run down to Cedar Creek and do a little bank fishing for gills & crackers :p

It was fairly calm, unusual for most of my trips to CC --

Only stayed til around 10AM ... when it started getting a bit "warm" :D

4 Gills (around 8") and 1 Shellcracker (around 9") ... all caught on this slipfloat rig w/nightcrawler pieces --
Here's the rig, with a nice Gill attached ... tried to get a pic of him from the side, but miscalculated the timing of his swing :p (little slow on the trigger :o )

Brought'em home and cleaned'em .... will be having them for lunch today ;)

Lake was not as crowded as I expected it to be. Boaters were not paying much attention to the "no wake" buoys (as usual) ... and several times I had to reel in to keep them from running across my line. I was fishing about 10ft deep, and a good 40ft out from the shore. Found some leftover hot dog pieces & liver, left lying on the shore ... and threw them to the fingerling gills. Gave the remaining nightcrawlers I had, to a couple of good 'ol boys that came just as I was leaving. I tried the bank off to the right of the ramp (Sims ramp - dam) when I first got there, but didn't do any good ... so I went to my rip rap spot (just below the parking lot) and stayed there til leaving.
One gill that I cleaned, had a nice sized egg sac ... so I may have to venture back down there, next full moon period ;)

At least you were out fishing. And brought home a tasty lunch.

oh, by the way .... they were delicious :D

Now, I KNOW I am going back during the bedding period ;)
I might even try that black bug w/yellow legs jig & float setup, that I saw on the KY Afield show (shellcracker fishing at Barkley). But, I WILL have some nightcrawlers with me :p ... just to be safe.

CP, were you fishing on the bank next to Hwy 127? Any other decent bank-fishing areas?

I was wondering because my mom lives in Danville, and I've always thought about trying Cedar Creek while I'm home. I don't have a lot of fishing time while I"m there, but a quick bank fishing trip to CC might be a good option.

Thanks for the post! I am in the same boat as Disco. Not much time when I visit. My dad lives in Danville. The only part of the lake that I have seen is from the main highway.

I was fishing off the rip rap, below the parking lot, at the dam ramp. The dam is on hwy 150 (the new section that runs between Stanford & Crab Orchard).

Coming from Danville, you'd get on 150 and stay on it until you cross the dam at Cedar Creek Lake. You will see the ramp/parking lot as you go across the dam. Take the second road on your right, after you cross the dam ... note: first road is a driveway -- second road has a white Church on it, and you will see the "boat ramp" sign. Go up that road until it T's and take a right turn. This will take you to the ramp & parking lot. From the launch ramp over to where the "swimming beach" is, and just below the guard rails of the lower parking area, is the rip rap bank. The half closest to the beach is pretty shallow, but the half towards the launch ramp is deeper. That's where I usually fish (deeper section) when I fish off the rip rap.

You can bank fish around any of the ramps ... but, the two choice areas (that I know of) are the rip rap & on the other side of the launch ramp/dock (that's one area) ..... and if you take a left at the T, then a quick right turn down the hill, it takes you to another open area where you can bank fish from. In that area, the creek on the left is deep ... the center section and right hand section are pretty shallow a good ways out. But, blowdowns do get hung up on that shallow section of bank, and may be a drawing factor. The water is usually pretty clear, so getting out to the 8ft deep & deeper water is usually necessary to get away from the dinks.

I've fished from the bank at the 1770 & old 150 ramp areas (see map), but prefer the dam ramp area.
And just as a warning ... they don't cut the grass around the lake very often, so it can be a bit wet and muddy along some of the banks. Ticks are bad around there, too ... so I always take DEET spray, or a can of Deep Woods Off, and spray my pants/shoes/socks (and check myself over, when I get home). ;)

Weekends are usually a madhouse around there :p .... so I'd go during the week, if I could. But, if you do go on a weekend - get there at daylight, and leave by midday ... & you might avoid the bigger part of the crowd.
