Boat and motor advice
All,
Just a line to let you all know I have a home based business where I work on boats and outboards. I have been in business for about 12 years in which I have gained alot of knowledge (usually not enough it seems) of most outboard motor issues.
If you all or someone you know may be having troubles with an outboard, feel free to drop me a line, I will try to help troubleshoot it. I do this on several other websites also. Just glad to help if I can.

Thanks for volunteering your help Boatman. I'm sure we will have to call on you from time to time, seems we're always needing some mechanical help on our outboards. I admire your offer to lend a hand when needed, thanks again!

I got one for ya Boatman...I'm almost finished with a pontoon project boat, and the plan is to use the Rude 88spl that I have on my fish-n-ski for the toon, and wait till the new 115 Etec is available for new power on the f & s. I'd be interested in your thoughts about the new Etecs.
My second choice would be to leave the 88 on the f & s...and get a 90 Etec for the toon. My 1996 88spl has been a great, trouble-free engine so far.

The Etec is a great motor thus far. I still think they are in the guinea pig stage though.
Evinrude put larger gearcases on the smaller motors for durability which in turn makes them a bit heavier per hp size. The pistons are made from the same material (some sort of ceramic) that the space shuttle has for the heat shield. Technology with these motors now can produce nearly 100 hp per each cylinder vs the older tech. that was limited to 35 hp tops per cylinder. Too much to list so I wont elaborate any longer.
I know two people here locally that have the Etec that really like the motor. 3 years no need to touch them. No service or anything for three years is outstanding!!
Performance, I believe the pretty smoke every other brand on the market if you compare them by size.
Id say get one!

My local dealer says that they have been offering a 7 year warranty on them in late winter....just to boost the season. If they offer this again...it may be too tempting to pass up.
