    Default What size auger?

If you were buying a hand auger, which size would you prefer 6" or 8"? Some say there is a noticeable difference between the two when drilling through thicker ice. They say the 8" is more difficult. What's your opinions? I have never used either.

Get the 6 in a hand auger. 8 for a power auger.

I agree with Chaunc--the 6inch is great for most applications. The 8inch is a lot more work, especially when it starts to dull some. The mora 6inch can be bought for around $50 and does a good job.

The 6inch is best for a hand auger. I would recommend the Strike master Lazer hand auger (don't remember the cost) it is a very good auger for the money. A 8 inch for the power auger and even tho a 10 inch auger is legal in Pa, it is dangerous to have a bunch of the 10inch holes around because little kids and women and some guys can get there foot in those holes and they can get hurt or worse.
