Anyone fished this week at Guntersville for bream? Heading down there Sunday to fish next week and was wondering if they had gone to the nest yet.
Thanks for any info.
What I have caught in the past have been nice fish for the most part. Some beds hold larger fish than others but on average I have few throwbacks.
guntersville is one of the nations top bass lakes right now(10lb 2 oz fish this past weekend in a tournament).whatever it is, the bass are not the only ones doing great.some of the best bream and crappie i have ever caught have come off this lake in the last year or so.i havent been out yet for bream but its time.generally, the full moon in may is a good start.i think with the rain we have had, it may be a little later but i think they are biting now if you can find em.easiest way we have found them is to troll around and look in the openings in the grass for beds or murky water.guntersville is rarely muddy so if you find a muddy or murky spot in otherwise green water, its fish making it that way.

Returned from Guntersville this past Thursday. Good trip but the weather was cool. Fished 3 days with good days on Mon and Wed. Tuesday was a poor day. Fish were not on the beds for some reason. We may have been too early this year due to the cold weather. Fish seemed to run smaller than in past years as well although we did catch some big ones. Shellcrackers were few and far between. Crickets were more productive than jigs.
The catfish were hitting on the crickets. We caught 4 that would go 6 to 7 lbs each. Others were hooked but straigtened the hooks and/or broke the line. Fun to catch on the ultra-light tackle we were using with 2 and 4lb test. They were apparently cruising the bream beds as all were caught in 3-4 feet of water.
I have been fishing Guntersville for a long time 20 plus years and my main target for a long time was bream and shellcrackers. This is the latest spawn I have seen since fishing it. Normally the middle of April thru end of May i catch alot of good bream. So far this year I am yet to find a bed of bream. The water has been cool and muddy due to all the wind and rain. I do think if we can get a few sunshine days the big one will move up and start to spawn in the normal places. I fished sat, sun, and mon for a while and never found any worth keeping. We caught alot of small ones and also alot of catfish near the old beds. A few crappie are still being caught but everyone thinks that they will be done soon. The bass fishing is great and you can catch them on almost any bait that you like to fish. Just get out there and give them a try.
