In another thread on CC.com a guy talks about the Excel line going downhill, it's now being made somewhere else and he says it's really springy now not real supple like it was before. Glad I still have some old stock left.

Yes, I've taken care of this line, had it in a dark closet never let it get over 75 degrees. They say old line will go bad, but not in this case, it's almost 10 years old. But I have some more I bought this year, and I can't tell any difference. I notice fishing a minnow in current under a float it has a tendency to twist, but any line can do it.
I like Stren too, but I've been using Trilene xl this year. It is also good, but the stren is easier to see so I will probably switch back.
After Years Of Fishing Around The World While In The Navy I Have Learned To Trust Berkley Trilene Xl. I Have Tried Almost Every Other Brand And Keep Coming Back To The Xl.
this year I have had to tackle the same thing you have, what line will perform without twisting and kinking up, and to answer the question none of them will perform to my satisfaction. I have tried, not in this order, PLine, Maxima, Excel, spider wire, Mr. Crappie and Stren Maga Thin. After all these lines I have found that Stren Maga Thin to perform the best not perfect but the best. It will still twist and kink but its performance prior to that twist and kinking was better than the others.
I just keep respooling when it starts to kink.

A guy over at Sportman's Warehouse turned me on to P-Line. I spooled up with some 6lb line high visibility (yellow?) last year. You can't break it with your hands. Incredibly tough stuff--with few problems. It is ultra thin AND strong. I bought a spool of 2lb test (ya, i know--i'm living dangerously) yesterday. I had some trouble with the line because of its MICRO diameter (i can barely see the stuff--even though i got the flourescent blue). I can't say the 2lb test is "strong"--i'll find that out when i hook my first 2lb bream or 3lb crappie.
Thank everyone for their reply to my post. I picked up a spool of Stren and a spool of the Omiflex. Will see how it does.
