    Default Bream Tournament

I'm wanting to host a bream fishing tournament late this spring. I can find very little information about any bream fishing tournaments and was wondering if any of you have either hosted or participated in a bream fishing tournament?

I'm hoping to have a 1-day tournament open to boaters and bank fisherman alike and would like to know how other such tournaments have worked and if anyone has first hand experience or advice.

One of my biggest questions is how many fish should each participant weigh in? The legal limit in SC is 30 fish, but that seems a bit much. I was thinking of weighing in each participants biggest 12 or 15 fish.

I'm also wondering if one boat should equal one team, or if each person should be able to weigh 15 fish, regardless of how many were in the boat (as long as they weigh their own fish and don't share).

Would you guys pay $15 to participate in a bream tournament?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That sounds like an interesting tournament, most tournaments consider one boat fishing two persons as a "Team" and if i am not wrong it is a total weight of what the team catches. $15.00 sounds reasonable enough for an entry fee. I am not so sure i would include the bank fishing as part of your tournament.

If you have access to other tournament rules(crappie, bass,or walleye) you may be able to incorporate those into your bream tournament rules such as number, size, weight and so on.Starting time and finish time etc etc

    Thumbs up

Be sure to use a gram scale for weigh in for possible tie..
You should pay out big fish for two age groups with 3 places.
Highest total weight for two age groups with 3 places.
Have lots of panfish outfits to hand out, especially for the younger folks.
Do all of above for bank fishermen also.
10 largest fish weigh in per fisherman.
Someone will cheat and will combine largest to win anything. It's all part of this fishing for stuff or cash. That is why they use a lie detector at tourneys. (sad but true)
Tournament should be free to all.
More fun to have a get together with all bringing food and drinks and have FRIENDLY compition.lol

Why don't you PM ShellQuacker? He has "2008 Virginia Bream Champs" in his signature. Sounds like he'd be a good source of information.

    No need, here I is.
The bream bash, (tourney) we had for the VA board this past year, we weighed the 5 largest fish. Each boat was counted as ONE entry, no matter if there were 2 fisherpersons, or just one. This saves the worry over "cheating", as you go ahead and combine your five biggest.
That being said, our bashes aren't so much tournaments, as they are just get togethers to meet, greet, fish and have a good time. (Although bragging rights are kinda cool) Our board has since changed the rules for our bashes.
Now it's 1 big fish of whatever species we're targeting. $5 entry. The reason for this was, once you get to sorting fish etc, it ends up being like one of those......."other" tourneys. (green carp) That, and some people don't have live wells etc, and if they don't want to keep fish, it ends up.....well, you see what I mean.
Do gooder since April 26, 2009!

Thanks for the info Quacker. Rancrappie, if I'm able to get enough interest, I'm going to put in on at Lake Wateree in the midlands of South Carolina.
