There's a Walleye thread that people post Sauger info on. Scroll down past the individual state boards, and you'll see it.

Does anyone have experience catching sauger in man made reservoirs like Ky. or Barkley lakes?
I know we have 'em in Ky. lake. I just don't know how to catch 'em consistently.
I've caught a few of them night fishing for white bass around the bridge pilings at Egner's Ferry Bridge on Ky. lake using minnows.
I sure would like to see a section here on CDC about this not-so-well-known-but-great-eatin-fish!!

Do gooder since April 26, 2009!
I would use a slip float and minnow/jig to catch them.

We use a blade bait here in Ohio. I prefer a Vibe blade bait but a Sonar, Silver Buddy or Cicada from Heddon will work just. Of course we are targeting Saugeye but Sauger come to.
Blade baits work great for them as does a bucktail jig tipped with a minnow.Target points with drop offs during bright light times, shallower at night.Good luck with them.
We have them in this pool here on the KY River and I've caught several in the past in the dam tailwaters. I know a couple of guys who target them and it's in the coldest, most miserable nasty weather Dec thru Feb at the tailwaters that they catch them and sometimes they are very successful. Bottom jigs tipped with minnows is what works there.
I must confess; I'm a wuss; a warm weather fisherman; I'd rather stay home and play with the old lady Dec thru Feb than to be out on that ol' cold river............ but come late March or April, watch out!! (we'll both be out there)
