Welcome aboard santeecarl. If you will make this post on the S.C. board, we have more than a few that fish Santee and I'm sure they will help you out.

Hey Carl, the best thing I can tell you is that I've caught most of my bigger shellcrackers out of Pack's Landing at Santee. I just leave the landing, turn left under the train trestle at the main opening and keep going straight once under the trestle. Keep some flooded cyprus trees just to your left. You'll pass by at least one long dock before you'll notice a wooden stand someone has nailed to a cyprus tree for their dog to sit on while duck-hunting. Cut into the cyprus trees there and just troll around with worms fished on the bottom close to the sawgrass and all around the cyprus trees. I have good luck there every year, as long as there is water there. You'll catch some while using a cork, but I've found that the bigger shellcrackers in that area really like to stay right on the bottom, and they seem to like worms better than crickets.

    Default thanks guys for reply

question: i know worms are best for shellcrackers....do you fish right on the bottom.....no cork.....tight line????

Also have heard that Packs on that side of lake....and Stump Hole on this side of lake are good spots to find them bedding.....

When (month) do they start bedding???

I will keep you posted if I find them........

    thanks again...

For me, it's on the bottom with a cork.

Go out to the main board and scroll down. You will see the "state message board" section.
