You must be in WV or Western VA. I love morels, but since moving here have found NOBODY that knows about them or hunts them. I looked for a few years and for the most part gave up. I think I'm too near the coast. (VA)
When I first moved here I asked people when the mushroom hunting season was. All I got was "What kinda gun do ya use" and "Do you use dogs?"
I really miss it. I'm thinking about buying a growing kit, but I've heard mixed results with those. Mostly bad.
Hope you find a ton when the rain quits!

Also ShellQuacker not sure if they are out there or not.But I would suggest looking around north sides of hills and if you can find a old apple orchid is prime also I have good luck around sickamore (spelling doesnt look right lol) tress near the rivers around here.Usally the black & browns ones come first then the white ones last.

Another good way to find them is find some turkeys & look around.A turkey will clean a 3 ft circle bone clean to the dirt just to eat 1 mushroom. When you find alot of spots that looks like your ole lady has been sweeping house in the leaves.....bingo start looking good cause you found the dry land fish :D

It's "sycamore". There, now you know. From all my "research", including the mushroom message boards and even contacting mycology professors at VA Universities, the morels in this state are mostly in the piedmont/mountainous areas. I'm in the coastal plain.
Oddly enough, in my nursery we grow sycamores, white ash, American elm and tulip poplars. All associated with morels. Oh the injustice of it all.
We have collected several other species of mushrooms through the years to satisfy my craving somewhat, but nothing compares to morels imho.
