You caught him around Santee Cooper, SC. Lake Moultrie and Marion. I have a friend who decided to retire and move there after a few good fishing trips.

Not trying to down play your fish, but you were saying that is average. You are about right, though I grin from ear to ear and sometimes sound like a little school girl when I catch a two pounder.

Anyway my friend, Joe, brought home a mess of those fish from Lake Moultrie the were 3 1/2 lbs not one but the whole mess. I could not beleive my eyes... I bout shat. They looked like footballs and the forhead was coming over the nose like somebody smacked'm with a board.

There are some fine fish not just crackers but all kinds in Santee Cooper lakes.

"In 1998, Santee Cooper had a world’s record shellcracker that weighed 5 pounds, 7 ounces caught in the Diversion Canal. We catch 4-pound shellcrackers every fall, and 2- to 3-pound shellcrackers are fairly common,” Lamprecht reports. The Diversion Canal, which connects Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie, seems to concentrate shellcrackers in the fall months. During the fall and winter, shellcrackers are caught in 15 to 20 feet of water. Anglers fish on the end of the current, right along the bottom. The fall run of shellcrackers usually starts the first week of November and continues through mid-December. Then shellcracker-fishing gets good again around Easter and runs through the summer months."

Can you imagine, 5 and a half pounds. Wow, thats a trophy smallmouth bass.

I have seen smaller crackers than that easily break 6lb test line. I bet that was a nice fight.
