Thread: Top 10 Artificial Bream Baits

I don't have a top 10 unless you consider variations in color.
I have a new personal favorite that I'm supprised hasn't been mentioned. T.H.E. Jig tied by a fella up in northern MN. I have only tried the 1/80 oz. with very positive results. They seem a little pricey out of the chute at a couple bucks apiece, but I haven't had a single one come apart.
These things just plain work!
I have also been a fan of the 1/80 oz. Grizzly Jigs. The tiny 1/80 Bill's Water Flea from Grizzly Jigs is my all time favorite from there.I have caught hundreds of gills 3/4 to slightly above a pound on these little jewels. I do overlay the tie threads on the Grizzlys as they sometimes come undone quicker than I would like. They are reasonable though at $7 or so a dozen card, so not a big deal.
I use a few other small (some tiny) jigs that I tie for my own use, but the two above would come very highly recomended by this ole giller. Mike

I slam the snot out of the gills with those 64th's and 80th's.
If I do not bust off I can get a jig to last the whole 5 week season ,plus it's good to go for 4 months of ice fishing.
I know I've caught 2000 fish on a single jig. The paint will be gone ,but the hair stays intact.

You are right about my jigs being a bit pricy.
When you get 1 that lasts as long as they do plus getting a deadly jig....
what would that be worth?

Strike King Mini 3, Mann's C-4 Elite, & any white curly tail jig. The other 7 would be different jigs & flies.

clouser type,as someone said on another thread on this forum,the clouser is not just a specific fly anymore.it is a pattern that has many variations,ie:crappie candy fly/jig is a good example.
just google (crappie candy) i tye many variations of this fly in various weights and colors .i catch most of my bream,and red ears on them.
it can be tied with the eyes on top or under the hook,i use the upside down clouser with a mono guard in grass beds and structure.
i consider this pattern the best all around sinking fly for panfish including carppie,i weight the crappie clouser with led wire.

creme pre-rigged small plastic worm with a spinner,rooster tails,assorted curly tail and tube jigs and one of my favorites that can be deadly the small sizes of rapala original and jointed floaters in different colors but gold is my favorite color sometimes i work them in at a slow steady pace running a foot or two under the surface but a lot of times late in the evening or especially when the fish are feeding off the surface i like to hold the rod tip up and just reel in slowly occasionally pausing i especially like a small jointed floater for this and usually they just destroy it on the pause also pick up tons of bass and crappie like this

Hello My top ten isnt in any order since the #1 bait is only #1 at the time that im catching fish on it.
1. 1/32 oz jig head molded around a #8 hook tipped with a tinny split tail grub and fished on a #0 or #00 jig spinner.
2. small pop r or nano popper top water with the back trebble hook remover and a 4ld. florocarbon drop leader tied to the rear of popper and a trout magnit with one of the tails cut of {for more action} tied on with a loop knot.
3. 1/32 or 1/16 oz. jig molded onto a #6 hook with a 1" slider grub. I use this for sunfish mostly in river systems.
4. bitsy pond minnow {strike king} Works as top water also. favorite color firetiger.
5. mepps spinner with the fly on it in the #00 {blue gill killer}
6. cutie spinn 1/16 oz. safty pin spinnerbait with tied feather skirt.
7.hair and feather jigs that I tie on 1/80 to 1/32 oz heads. I tie on out of drake mallard feathers from under there wings they look like tinny minnows. Fished under a float or the pop r
8. pop eye flies like grizzly jigs on a drop shot rig.
9. berkley maggots, mini earthworms and honey worms on small jigheads.
10. poppin bugs or sponge spiders on a fly rod.
