I don't have a top 10 unless you consider variations in color.
I have a new personal favorite that I'm supprised hasn't been mentioned. T.H.E. Jig tied by a fella up in northern MN. I have only tried the 1/80 oz. with very positive results. They seem a little pricey out of the chute at a couple bucks apiece, but I haven't had a single one come apart.
These things just plain work!
I have also been a fan of the 1/80 oz. Grizzly Jigs. The tiny 1/80 Bill's Water Flea from Grizzly Jigs is my all time favorite from there.I have caught hundreds of gills 3/4 to slightly above a pound on these little jewels. I do overlay the tie threads on the Grizzlys as they sometimes come undone quicker than I would like. They are reasonable though at $7 or so a dozen card, so not a big deal.
I use a few other small (some tiny) jigs that I tie for my own use, but the two above would come very highly recomended by this ole giller. Mike
Thanks Mike.
I slam the snot out of the gills with those 64th's and 80th's.
If I do not bust off I can get a jig to last the whole 5 week season ,plus it's good to go for 4 months of ice fishing.
I know I've caught 2000 fish on a single jig. The paint will be gone ,but the hair stays intact.
You are right about my jigs being a bit pricy.
When you get 1 that lasts as long as they do plus getting a deadly jig....
what would that be worth?

my top 10
1 dynamite
2. cast net
3 treble hook
4 blue heron
5. my kid
6. a spear
7. dip net
8. chewing tobacca
9. arsenic
10. drought
Strike King Mini 3, Mann's C-4 Elite, & any white curly tail jig. The other 7 would be different jigs & flies.
clouser type,as someone said on another thread on this forum, the clouser is not just a specific fly anymore.it is a pattern that has many variations,ie:crappie candy fly/jig is a good example.
just google (crappie candy) i tye many variations of this fly in various weights and colors .i catch most of my bream, and red ears on them.
it can be tied with the eyes on top or under the hook,i use the upside down clouser with a mono guard in grass beds and structure.
i consider this pattern the best all around sinking fly for panfish including carppie,i weight the crappie clouser with led wire.
Mirco-spoons from crappieday work real good
creme pre-rigged small plastic worm with a spinner, rooster tails, assorted curly tail and tube jigs and one of my favorites that can be deadly the small sizes of rapala original and jointed floaters in different colors but gold is my favorite color sometimes i work them in at a slow steady pace running a foot or two under the surface but a lot of times late in the evening or especially when the fish are feeding off the surface i like to hold the rod tip up and just reel in slowly occasionally pausing i especially like a small jointed floater for this and usually they just destroy it on the pause also pick up tons of bass and crappie like this
Hello My top ten isnt in any order since the #1 bait is only #1 at the time that im catching fish on it.
1. 1/32 oz jig head molded around a #8 hook tipped with a tinny split tail grub and fished on a #0 or #00 jig spinner.
2. small pop r or nano popper top water with the back trebble hook remover and a 4ld. florocarbon drop leader tied to the rear of popper and a trout magnit with one of the tails cut of {for more action} tied on with a loop knot.
3. 1/32 or 1/16 oz. jig molded onto a #6 hook with a 1" slider grub. I use this for sunfish mostly in river systems.
4. bitsy pond minnow {strike king} Works as top water also. favorite color firetiger.
5. mepps spinner with the fly on it in the #00 {blue gill killer}
6. cutie spinn 1/16 oz. safty pin spinnerbait with tied feather skirt.
7.hair and feather jigs that I tie on 1/80 to 1/32 oz heads. I tie on out of drake mallard feathers from under there wings they look like tinny minnows. Fished under a float or the pop r
8. pop eye flies like grizzly jigs on a drop shot rig.
9. berkley maggots, mini earthworms and honey worms on small jigheads.
10. poppin bugs or sponge spiders on a fly rod.
1) For bobber fishing or jigging off of the shore and in shoreline brush, a gitzit little tough guy tube jig tipped with a berkley maggot.
http://www.gitzitinc.com/index.php?c...49ace2fe43b911
2) For sheer volume, if you consider it artificial, the berkley honey worms work magic. Fished with a small slip shot and no bobber... (just keep it moving sloooow). Use 2 leaders / hooks, you may see doubles. The berkley maggots are a second choice since they are easier to get.
3) Creme 1.5 inch spoiler minnow (aka small storm style bait) Works well in clear water bouncing into weed beds as this bait is more weedless that most jigs.

4) For creeks a tiny inline spinner, i.e. chartreuse rooster tail, works well. Seems to spook the fish after awhile so I'll use it only if I'm covering ground.
5) For jigging for bluegill and crappie at once off of a boat in deeper water, I like the creme silverside jig.
http://www.cremelure.com/store/graph.../Color_236.jpg
6) For winter, a small roadrunner with a panfish assassin, worked very slowly like a bass jig off of the bottom or jigged in shoreline cover.
7) A crankbait / jig combo. Tie a leader on the rear hook of the smallest crank bait you've got tied a few feet down to the smallest jighead you have with a curly tail grub.
8) For pond bluegill, when the bluegill are shallow, small balsa popper flies are a lot of fun.
9) Again, not sure if you'd consider this artificial but for spawn fishing, where you wouldn't mind catching a bass or a bluegill, the berkley earth worms are a good choice, just fish carolina rigged with a light weight. Give the fish a few seconds to eat the worm before hook set
10) Use trout flies with spinning tackle. In most cases Fireline braid in the 4 to 1 pound diameterl. In very clear water I'll use a thin mono leader. With line this light you can toss an unweighted fly a good 10 feet.
Grizzly Jigs. Lou, the boys and girls will take care of you. I like to fish a couple of these on a drop shot rig. Jigs last for many fish.
Grizzly Jigs are #1
1. Tidwells Teal
2. Cunningham
3. Otis
4. Normans Rainbow
5. Grizzly Grey
6. Hot Pink on Guinea Blue
6. The Killer
7. Suzy Brown
8. Black on Red
9. Grizzly Brown
10. Bill's Water Flea
11. any of the other 50 colors!
The only way to bream fish in my opinion is with a flyrod. And my two favorite bream flies are the bream killer in black and the black gnat.
Gypsi Jig, in black/silver:

Or a 1.5" tube jig in smoke with black and gold flake. Works well around here, especially tipped with a crappie nibble.
RAPALA F3
ive caught every kinda of fish in the lake i fish except catfish
form fish as big as the bait to 6 lbs bass
this is one of my go to baits
and sliders are are also good
they make a smaller version or the slider to which is better for bluegill
Why don't you ask the two top bluegill guides at reelfoot lake Billy Blakely and Jackie VanCleve. I haven't heard their choice mentioned.
Don't tell me! I'm keen to guess. Hmmm ... a popeye jig?Quote:

Why don't you just put a link to your website in your signature? Everybody else does.
This has become awesome, thanks for all the great comments!
My top ten would be in the following order,
1. 55mm Squidgy wriggler tail on a 1/16oz lunker city lunkergrip jighead
2. 1.5in Charlie Brewer Slider grub rigged same as above
3. panfish assassin tomato seed
4. lunker city finesse shad 1.5in
5. southern pro lures triple tip tail. motoroil gold flake
6. bass proshops cajun crawler
7. berkely ribbon tail power grub 2in.
8. sponge spiders
9. ecogear sx40 crankbaits from Australia
10.berkley power nymph
my two cents: green spittinimage/popeye with a fat waxworm, use repeatedly until cooler is full!!!!
The only thing I ever use is the Rooster Tail in firetiger. I go fishing on the Brazos River here in Texas, and that lure just tears em up. I call it my "Brazos Bomber."
1 ligon bream killer (black w/white legs)
2 1/32 oz beetle spin (black w/chart stripes)
3 1/80 grizzly tipped with waxworm or powerbait
if they won't hit those better go home or go git dem crickets. During the spawn I belive you can catch just as many on artificials. If the water is more dingy than normal live bait definitely works better for me. I get alot of short strikes if the water is ditier than whatever is normal for that area.
Black Bream Killer with white legs on a Little Joe (Hildebrand) silver spinner.
Ther is a wealth of information here.
Here are a couple of flies that work well on panfish and bass.
My Myakka Minnow:
