Default Question for fly fishermen ( Fly Pic)

OK I have seen some soft hackle flies that are similar and I just tied this fly because I wanted to see what it would look like using the gold flat tinsel with the green floss and some duck feathers for hackle.

So what would this fly be called? I know that we should know what we are trying to do, but many times I am just trying to make something (jig or fly) that I think would catch fish. I like to come up with my own things even though I know none of this is new and most likely anything I can come up with to tie has been done before I still like just jumping in. I like using my fisherman's eye to tie a fly or jig that both fishermen and fish will like.

However I would still love to know if this has a name.

    Thanks,

    Interesting fly.

I don't even have a fly rod yet, but plan on getting one soon. I fish for crappie/bass/bream and that is about it. We have strippers and other stuff, but I don't go after any of them.

If I was a little close to the coast like I use to I would be going after red fish and trout (speckled). I have done a good bit of salt water fishing so am thinking about adding some saltwater flies to my offerings.

Can't wait for a fly rod and next spring crappie.

Well, its a pretty fly, thats for sure, bet you will get some fish on it. I don't know what the name is, that is part of the fun of creating your own flys, is you get to name them.

Here are some I just made, they really have been productive fish catchers! I havn't named em yet, mabye MT gill-getters?

What is in my bucket today?

    Skip,
The fly is a variation of the North Country Wet Flies. This particular one would be in the Patridge series..the name is usually "Patridge and XXXX". The x part is usually the thread or body color. So yours could be called "Patridge and Green (or Gold)" "Partidge and Flashy" or whatever you wanna call the body part.

very effective flies..us very very small strips let it drop naturally and you can even use a stricke indicatior (which i would suggest if crappie are around).
