The town park was hoping today since folks were off for the Holiday .
But , I wanted to go fishing .
Got a later start just before 3:00 . When I got to the town pond , the sunny side was occupied by a couple of kids throwing the river rocks into the pond that were put there to prevent erosion.
I took off to the shaded side where I immediately felt like the temperature dropped twenty degrees. That wind , with gusts to 26mph was cold .
I made a few unproductive casts while wishing the kids would move on . Then I realize I’d forgotten to take my 3:00 medication and had to walk back to my vehicle to get a drink of water . As I was walking back the kids left .
I setup in the sun and fished until 3:30 with a black micro streamer jig , drop shot style and finally caught a small bass . I was using a 6’ St Croix Avid UL with a 500 size Soare XR and 2# p-line .
I switched over to a 6’ SC Premier UL paired with a 2000 size Soare XR sspg ,and 3# Floroclear, with an olive micro streamer jig with copper tungsten bead .
Ten minutes later I caught my first bluegill.
The copper bead made a difference. In the next 30 minutes I caught 4 more bluegills, two more bass and a shellcracker. No monsters, but everything that pulls back winter fishing is fun . Eight total in about an hour and fifteen minutes.
One thing I’ve discovered is a cork handle is more comfortable than the hard ergo handles on my JDM rods in cold weather.
