Default Been Awhile , Town Pond Visit

It had been awhile since I paid a visit to the Town Pond .
After the recent rain , the water looked pretty good .
Had a few minutes this afternoon and decided to go there since it is the closest fishable water to me .
I took two combos but spent most the forty five minutes using my 6’ TFO Trout and Panfish II paired with an inexpensive Shimano Sienna 500 I spent a little time lubing it yesterday .
The little reel performed great . The drag is sweet .
I caught seventeen gills and a small largemouth while throw a dark olive micro Tungsten jig .
That’s just under three minutes per fish . I’ll take that any day
Some of the gills were nice ones . Biggest I’ve caught in awhile .

You did get some better than average gills today! I’ve looked at the Siennas and they’re nice for the money. I’ve got one I think and if I get any more trolling rods they’ll have them on them. The low end Shimano that I have are leaving me wanting after a couple of years. Wish I could walk to a pond close to the house. You’d find me there more than home.

I have several older (silver) Sienna 500’s I still use . Back then they were around 6oz , had 4/1 bearings and a 4.7/1 gear ratio .
Wished they’d bring those back .
The newer (red/black) ones 5.6/1 and weigh 6.2oz . So much for progress.
The handle knob does have a screw , so the slack in the knob can be adjusted , but the knob shat is tapered , so no bearings . I just greased the shaft with some silicone grease and tightened the screw to take out the play .
Added some reel oil to the main shaft and the handle bearings .
Now it’s a smooth little reel with a capable drag that sounded pretty sweet a few times today .
I absolutely love the Soare bb500 reels after a bearing upgrade in the handle knob . But they’re over $100 .
    A Sienna won’t replace a Soare .
I keep telling myself every rod doesn’t need a dedicated reel , but I haven’t convince myself , yet
After all, the most combos I take at one time is four and I can setup my combos the night before . And I can only fish one rod at a time unless I’m trolling .

Those gills were sure colored up and ready to go. Pretty good numbers in a short period of time. Bet you'll be back there again real soon.

You really caught some big ones. Very dark coloration as well. Thanks for sharing
