But we had a cold front come in last night that dropped temperatures below normal.
High today was 36 with a wind chill of 26 with winds at 14mph gusting to 28 .
With the sun shining bright , and bluebird skies, I thought maybe I could stand the cold for maybe an hour .
Wasn’t sure I was going to catch anything but wanted to try .
I took a 5’ Major Craft Aji do Ajing rod paired with a Soare bb500spg reel and Nasci spool with Daiwa J braid .
Set up with a size 12 hook rabbit fur streamer fly with a 3mm tungsten bead loop tied a couple of feet above a 1/8 weight .
The little rod would fling out long casts even with a wind from nine o’clock.
On about my third cast I had a tail nipper transfer a thump through the braid to the reel seat . Gave me some hope .
About fifteen minutes later , another thump and a hookup . A nice colorful bluegill.
Eleven minutes later , the line just felt limp , I removed the slack and knew it had to be a little bass and I was right . .
About ten minutes later I hooked up on a an underwater snag and broke off from the hook down.
Rather than retie with numb fingers , I headed home to warm up.
I’m happy to see the drop shot working during the cold periods.
Beats sitting at home all day .
