Most of the snow has melted here and the sun came out today . Temps , low 50’s , winds 8-14 NNW .
I figured a good time to compare my 6’ TFO Pastime T&P to my TFO T&P II . The Pastime was paired with a Shimano Soare XR500 sspg with 2# test Floroclear. The T&P II was paired with a Shimano Soare bb500spg and 2# Floroclear.
Both had a 4.6mm Tungsten bead jig and mini Trout Magnet body .
I don’t like carrying two rods with me to the lake . I need some kind of rod holder to keep the extra rods off the ground . I used my fishing stool to hold the other rod as I fished . I stood and fished the hour and half I was out there .
I started off fishing with the T&P II and it didn’t take long to catch my first little Bass .
I switched to Pastime and within 4-5 casts , caught another bass , almost identical to the other one .
I used the Pastime for the next cast , then switched back to the T&P II.
Even though the T&P II is a two piece rod and the Pastime is a one piece , they felt very similar, even the grip . Sensitivity was close , with maybe a slight edge to the Pastime . If I were blind folded , I probably couldn’t pick out which rod was which as long as my hand stayed on the reel section .
The T&P II cost $119 , the Pastime is $249 . The Pastime wins in the looks department IMO , but the fishability and feel of the rods are very close .
Except for the looks , I would pick the T&P II and grab an extra for the difference between them .
I’d like to try a T&P II in a one piece rod . I bet it’d be equal to the Pastime in sensitivity.
The bend on both rods with a fish on are similar.
The Pastime is an awesome rod , with better looks and better guides .
I wish TFO would go with a black blank for the T&P III if they ever build them .
After catching two fish with each rod , I put up the Pastime and finished my outing with the T&P II .
Ended up catching eight more fish , including a nice LM bass and one nice bluegill , for a total of twelve.
A nice winter outing .

Good report and pics. Nice catches.
Thanks for the insight. TFO has a good reputation from what I’ve heard so it doesn’t surprise me that they both perform well. Glad you got enough good weather to get out some, I got to look through a windshield. Hope you get out again soon.

Nice to see grass, bass and bluegills. They eat the little tiny baits a lot this time of year. When I look outside all I see is white. I'm done with snow.
