Today was the best day ,weather wise , to go .
Sunny , mid 40’s to 52 for the high , but 7-14mph NW wind .
Got to the Town Pond around 12:30 , it was 47 degrees with the NW wind blowing into the dam , which is shaded . But that’s where I’ve had the best luck since nights have been hovering around freezing for several weeks .
I was bundled up with pullover hoodie and vest . I had fingerless gloves that helped for a little while . I fished for about forty minutes on the dam side then shifted to the sunny side to warm up a few minutes , then back to the shaded dam side .
Ended up with three bluegills one nice one , and four LM bass .
Combo of the trip was a 6’1” Daiwa Procyon ULF . Paired with a Shimano Miravel c2000s , spooled with 2# Floroclear. Lure was an olive chenille 4.6mm tungsten bead jig with an olive Mini z trout magnet body .
The Procyon rod has a unique action . I would call it more of a XXF tip . I believe it’s a solid tip , it’s so thin , but I had no problem feeling the hits and this combo casts farther than any I’ve used lately .
If I caught a gap in the wind , I was casting 75+ feet . I may be fishing rod more in the future . I also own it in a 5’6” model . Specs are 1-4# line 1/32-1/8 lure weight .
Happy to get the new year skunk off .
