After the poor showing yesterday at the creek , and wishing I’d fished the Town Pond , I decided to give the Pond a try today even with a cloudy day predicted with temps rising into the mid fifties. I don’t think it dropped below freezing last night for the first time in a couple of weeks.
And with rain for the first three days this week followed by cold windy days again .
I took my newest addition , a TFO 6’6” Trout and Panfish II UL paired up with a KastKing SFS 1000 reel , the newest edition. Spooled with 2# Floroclear.
And I can tell you now , I miss fishing with my Daiwa J-braid .
Even with the light winds we had today the light Floroclear was blown around almost as bad as the braid .
I miss feeling not only every little thump and bump , but i miss feeling every kick of the tail when I have a fish on . Just adds to the fight , even the little ones.
I had an issue with the super thin Floroclear today , it got under the spool and when I took the spool off , it’d wrapped about thirty times.
Now to the catching . I caught twelve bass and five 5-6” bluegill. Finally I found a few gills .
I swear the bluegills put up a better fight than the larger bass did . I actually thought I had a decent size bass a couple of times .
Lure today was a 4.6mm beadhead tungsten jighead with an olive colored mini Trout Magnet .
I tried black and caught a couple, but they seemed to like the olive green better today .
I like the new rod . I already owned a 6’ one , and think I prefer the shorter one , although the longer one is a nice rod and cast and performed great . When the wind wasn’t blowing I was getting some nice long casts , 75-80+ feet . Which is a good distance with a 1/32 jig .
Most likely won’t get another chance to go again until next Saturday if the weather is as predicted.
