    Default Pond & Creek trip

I started out this morning at the town pond . It was sunny , 64 with a promise of lighter winds , but that wasn’t reality .
I took the 1/4 mile walk to my most productive area and started off with my new seven foot St Croix Avid UL . But I’d swapped reels to a Daiwa Fuego 1000 LT spooled with 2# Floroclear.
Distance improved over the 3# but I came to the conclusion, this rod is not a twitching rod . It’s at its best as a float rod .
    I caught a tiny shellcracker , a small LM, and a decent cracker/gill hybrid .
Fishing was slow and I had been joined on the dam by a guy sparring with the cotton wood tree right off the asphalt path . Across the pond was a group of teenagers with a pool net attempting to scoop up turtles or fish . I wasn’t sure and didn’t want to find out when they made their way over to my side .
    Time to move !

I drove the almost half hour to the old mill that was flooded a couple weeks ago and when I got there , there were about six or seven vehicles and a group of people using the dam and mill as a backdrop for pictures .
I decided to try just below where they were set up , hoping they’d finish up in a few and leave the place to me .
It worked , fifteen minutes later they packed up and left .

I started off with the st z Croix seven footer but quickly got tired of trying twitch a micro jig with it , but did manage to catch a pretty little redbreast .
Luckily I’d brought a backup rod , an older model 5’6” Trout series paired with a Carbon X 1000s . Spooled with Daiwa braid .

I got to fish about forty minutes including swapping reels back and forth to try the Trout Series with the 2# , but ended up fishing the braid . I gotten to where I enjoy the feedback the braid gives me with light jigs and I get every bit of fight out of even the little ones .

I caught a variety of fish out of the creek , including, a small bass , a crappie , a couple of redbreast, a couple of bluegill, and a small shellcracker.

I’m glad I made the move to a more peaceful place to spend some time at what I love doing .
