Default Did I get the wrong reel?

After a few years of enjoying my neighborhood pond with a $25 combo, I decided to get a St Croix rod and a Pflueger reel.

Rod is obviously super LW, which is what I want for these tiny fish.,

However I thought the reel was a 20, which I thought was the smallest size. I noticed it says 35 on the box, and references both 20 and 35 on the description.

Was on sale for $30, so perhaps I clicked too quickly.

    Robot or human?

If you've got a 35, it's gonna be a little overkill for Panfish but if it balances well on the rod, it may be ok. The link here is a video comparison of some of the models. What is the part number on the box you received?

Great question - don't know yet. I opened it up, saw that it was the "wrong" one, and went right to the internet. Haven't mounted it yet.

    It is a PRESSP35X.

I just reread the SlickDeals thread that led me to this eventual purchase, I see where the misunderstanding was created. Both 35 and 20 were referenced, however it is indeed a 35 and likely too large for my setup. I'm still pretty new at this - it the issue/difference that it is too heavy for the small setup?

I agree, the 35 is way too big and heavy for the job. I’d return it and deal with another seller. I’ve been lucky so far and always gotten what I ordered.

Ok, makes sense! I'll send it back and use my "old" Trion until I find something else.

Any recommendations for a "medium tier" reel to pair with my St Croix ULW? Not in any hurry, just something to keep an eye on for a "deal" like the $30 Plfueger that didn't work out.

    Thanks everyone!

I prefer the 25 over the 20 . larger spool . 35 way to big . I use one for bass fishing jerk baits on a medium rod .

For super light and inexpensive my vote goes to the KK Zephyr 500. Reel is only 5.6oz. (I saw Gillchaser999 posting) I paid $35 and right now they are $42 but super light and very smooth for the price. I did get a bad one first (a hitch in the retrieve) but the exchange thru Amazon was simple and this one has been great.

I have a st croix panfish with a shimano nasci 500 and love it. I think I paid $60.00 for the reel a while back but it’s a killer combo. Heard good things about the Sahara as well.
