That’s what I was experimenting with the trip today. Comparing braid vs Floroclear fishing in the wind . The braid does help , but does get blown around. Casting distance was about the same.

Yesterday the wind was only 10-15 mph but it varied in direction and under a cloudless sunny sky. But the lake is surrounded by high hills and trees so there's some wind protection depending on which shoreline you're fishing.
1/16 oz jig riggged plastics and braid did fine casting under overhanging tree branches and working water 7' or more. Problem was that the fish wouldn't bite that size jig attached to my usual plastics in 3 FOW - which was the location pattern depth in scattered weed clumps on wide shoreline flats. So I had to downsize both going to a 1/32 oz jig and very small soft plastic - sometimes only the body of a curl tail grub. These shots were taken yesterday:
Increasing lure weight may help with casting, but other factors, as you discovered , are important in order to get the fish to bite .
Fall rate and lure size make a big difference in attracting fish.
To be able to fish the tiny micro baits I want to fish , I’m going to have to go to a float when the wind gets up .
wind is often your friend , lay flat water is often tough stuff , I go when I go , wind or not ....just saying
8# test braid on a spinning reel and a light action rod cast 1/32 + plastic a good distance even into the wind. Ditto for my old spincast reel with braid.Quote:
