I headed up to the town pond at noon today after another cold front came through last night .
Bluebird skies , light winds, , cool temps after a freeze this morning.
It was 47 when I arrived and the light breeze made it feel colder . I took a pair of fingerless gloves that helped .
I wasn’t expecting much , but in the hour and half I fished, I managed three shellcrackers , with two of them around 8 1/2” , and a couple of small bluegills.
I fished my 6’6” St Croix Avid light action , paired with a Shimano Sahara 500 with a Nasci spool, and 2# Floroclear.
I’ve started using the light rod to help lift fish if they’re not too big up the high bank on the dam side of the pond .
I used my Tungsten bead jighead with a Mini Trout Magnet . Twitching .
This one had a 4.65mm tungsten bead that gave me a few extra feet casting and helped telegraph when a fish hit .
I lost two , a nice shellcracker that came unhooked after a nice battle , and a 12” bass that came unhooked as I tried to slide it up the bank .
I caught most of the fish on the shaded , dam side of the pond .
