yellow perch are the bomb , we don't have them here in Texas to the best of my knowledge , but up north when i was a young one we hit them , I had a tiny jointed sinking deep water heavy crank of some sort that was maybe 1.5 inches long and had number 10 treble hooks on it .....drop it to the bottom and drag it a bit and get bit .....good times ...
congrats , btw ,,,,them is white perch is my thoughts , not white bass ?

probably a local term, my buddy, a fisherman of near your legend, called it white bass but also said some call it a white perch. In our area, white perch is used for yellow perch from Lake Michigan. They aren't yellow at all, and typically taste better.

For sure, either/or, my first ever. It's an invasive that entered our water system through foreign ballast water.

some say them white perch are edible , never ketched one or ate one is me .....:dono

He did say edible, very bony. Looking at the scales and such, it was a pass for me. Especially when we had great eating fish in the livewell.
