Today was supposed to have been meetup day with my fishing buddy , but Mother Nature threatened to soak us so with a lull in the rain this morning I took off to Lake McIntosh, a county water reservoir.
I took three combos with the plan being I’d catch ten fish with one before swapping out and in the end decide which I liked fishing with the best .
I started off with a 4’6’ St Croix Premier ULM paired with a Shimano Sahara 500 FJ and 2# Floroclear.
I caught my first ten fairly quickly using the micro spinner and thought my thirty would be easy , although most of the catches were small potato chip size .![]()
Next up was a black 5’ St Croix Triumph ULM , one of the first made in Mexico, paired with my Shimano Soare BBSPG and 2# Floroclear . The extra six inches makes for a better feeling rod , although both were casting the lightweight spinner 40-50 feet , most casts .
It took a little longer to catch my next ten and to catch something I felt picture worthy with my last one being a small crappie .
Next up was a 5’6” St Croix Triumph ULF , that feels more like a moderate more than the other two rods . It too was paired with a Sahara 500 FJ and 2# Floroclear.
The 5’6” took a little more effort to cast the micro spinner until I swapped to a 1/32 Roostertail and it came alive .
I first tried a chartreuse roostertail and swapped to a white/red with silver blade before I started getting a few hits . I hooked and lost a couple of crappie before getting one in .
That’s about the time it started sprinkling and a couple minutes later I could hear the rain coming from across the lake .
I just made it to the car before the heavy rain arrived.
