I live in MS, but there's no denying that there is great fishing in Arkansas. The trout fishing is incredible on the Little Red. If you ever feel like spreading out a bit, try heading up to the Spring River sometime. Good trout fishing for a few miles from the source, and a whole assortment of species downstream. I've caught several sunfish species, largemouth and spotted bass, walleye, and even suckers on flies while trying to trout fish below Dam 3. Don't worry though, I've also caught Rainbows up to 22 inches and, although not as plentiful as on the Little Red, Brown Trout up to 8 lbs. I haven't ever gone over there specifically to panfish, but I know there must be a lot of great public lakes and ponds for them also.

Randy, now that you're in Arkansas, please allow me to to make a couple of recommendations. I grew up fishing the river runs up and down the Mississippi, but I'm in Christiana TN. now keeping an eye on your Nickajack holes!
Look up Wapannaca Wildlife Refuge. It is in eastern Arkansas but it is full of big Bluegills and Redears. There is a website. Near Wapanacca is Island 40. Island 40 is a narrow old Mississippi River channel, Also, but a bit farther, are two terrific oxbow lakes when the river leaves in the Spring. One is Midway lake, otherwise know as Council Lake. The other is Whitehall Old River, otherwise know as Old Walnut Bend. They are both south of I-40 near the river.
Also, if you get a wild hair and go to NE Ark. cross the river and visit Reelfoot!

Yeah, bass fishing is a young man's sport. Older I get the more I gravitate towards panfish too! Panfish are arthritis friendly. :Rofl

Is Island 40 still open and if so open to the public? I fished there as a kid about 30 years ago and I just moved back to Memphis.

Is Dacus still around too?

I visited Dacus last summer during a trip back home to see my sisters. It appears that it is closed to the public. The ramp has a chain across it and all of the fish camp structures have been torn down. It was kind of strange seeing no one on the lake at all. I do not know about Island 40 as I have not been there in 35 years. It was one of my favorites as a youth. I was told that Lakeview is also closed to the public. I think it was bought by a Duck Hunting Club same as North Lake.
If you have never been to Whitehall, please put that one on your list. It is my all time favorite but it floods when the river reaches 12' on the Memphis gauge. It is strickly a summer time through fall fishery.
