Visited the town pond this morning.
Weather was party cloudy to partly sunny by the time I left .
I fished a 1/80 Woolybooger jig under a snap on weighted foam float , 95% of the just over two hours I fished .
I took my 7’ Procyon UL rod , paired up with an old Shimano 500 Sienna loaded with 6# KastKing Extremus braid with a 4# P-line Floroclear leader .
I stuck with my little jig most of the time and it paid off .
I caught two nice gills , my first fish of the year . The bigger one was close to nine inches , the other one eight .
Felt good to finally catch a fish . It’d been awhile.
I liked how the braid cast , but experienced a couple of wind knots . I’m going to have to investigate how these happen and try to eliminate them . They’re a pain to pick out .
I have an idea but I’m not sure . I always check my line when closing the bail , but I think the wind would blow slack in my line and that’s when it would go on loosely .
I’ve reordered the Daiwa J line braid to try .
I liked the sensitivity of the line . When the big one hit , I felt it and felt every head shake .
