How to handle the extreme cold !

With windchill I bet it felt like -10! Yesterday it didn't get over 18 degrees with wind around 15-20mph. Brrrr! I don't believe the forcast of it getting to near 50 on Fri. but I'll take any temperature at this point above freezing, sunny with zero wind.

Can't even ice fish after last week's 3" of rain with it over 50 degrees for a few days (not that I'll ever ice fish again...). At least the family Xmas dinner went well and it was bright and sunny. After they left I slept while watching TV in the arm chair. Nothing bettter to do in or outside.

Our wind really died down today, if it ever stops snowing I can get out and catch some fish hopefully. I picked up some new plastics that id like to try!

Wind died down here also though the temperature is still only 23. Can't believe the forecast of a 6 day heat-wave starting Thurs. with the max at 59 next week and rainfall on New Years Eve and New Years day. What a crazy year!

Suppose to get into the 60's the rest of the week. I am watching the wind forecast and hope it dies down enough for me to hit the water.

Didnt do well on crappies, having some electronics issues that i spent most of the time trying to sort out. It was also colder than they said, it was 8-9F by evening, so rod guides were freezing up a bit.

Going to give it a go again tomorrow, supposed to be a warm 40 so that should make it a bit more enjoyable

Gave it a try today . Locally.
Weather was sunny , middle 50’s , light breeze .
My fishing buddy caught a stomach virus and couldn’t go.
I tried three different spots .
First a county water reservoir. Water temp was 43 degrees. Fished for about 45 minutes without a nibble.
Next , it was off to the creek where surprisingly the water temp was also 43 degrees .
30-40 minutes without a bite and I took off for the Town pond .
The temp at the Town pond was promising at 46 degrees .
But somebody forgot to tell the fish .
It was fun trying . I fished three different rods , a 5’ Rosewood UL , a 5’6” 13 Fishing Omen UL , and a 5’6” Daiwa Ajing UL .
A variety of baits , from a Ned rig to a float n fly . Not one nibble .

But ya got out and it felt good tryin. Always beats sitting at home.

Yes , it did feel good to get out and try .
Last year around this time of year , I was catching some nice gills at the pond . Some were over nine inches.
Hopefully we’ll get back to some normal night time temperatures and the water will warm up .

Back to the pond again today . Waited a little later to let the water warm some .
Surface temp at shore was 51-52 degrees .
Weather today was awesome. Sunny mid sixties.
Two hours of casting practice.
The cold spell must have put the fish into shock .
Headed into a warmer week , maybe by next week they’ll start getting a little active .
